Freedom of the Borough honours for Sarah Barton and Andy Holt
Sarah Barton, community volunteer, and Andy Holt, Chairman of Accrington Stanley F.C., both received Honorary Freedom of the Borough at Hyndburn’s annual Mayor Making event on Saturday 21st May 2022.
Councillor Miles Parkinson OBE, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council said:
“Freedom of the Borough is the highest award a council can bestow, and it was an honour to witness Andy Holt and Sarah Barton receive this. Both of them have made a long-lasting impact on our local community and work tirelessly to help others.
“Sarah has spent a lifetime dedicating herself to volunteering, community events and to helping those in need. Everyone who knows Sarah is aware of the fantastic work she does. Over the years our community has benefitted from Sarah’s self-less work and efforts through celebrations and support of the local community and voluntary sector.”

Sarah Barton said:
“I am extremely honoured to have been chosen to be given the title of Honorary Freeman, especially as my heart and focus is in the voluntary and community sector. There are many worthy people within our community that deserve this type of recognition and I am very humbled to be one of those who have been nominated and put forward to receive the award. It was a really lovely day and one that I was able to share with special friends that have supported and helped me throughout my journey as a volunteer”
