Maundy Relief, a local charity, have been appointed to help Hyndburn Borough Council with community integration and support for Ukrainian arrivals to Hyndburn. Since the Homes for Ukraine Scheme opened many families in Hyndburn and throughout the UK have welcomed people fleeing the war in Ukraine into their homes.

Beccy Murrell, Operations Manager at Maundy Relief, said:

“We are really pleased to be working alongside Hyndburn Council to help people who have fled the war in Ukraine settle into our borough. We are hosting weekly meetings for people to come along, meet each other and have a chat with a brew in hand. We are also here to help them get the information they need for everything from benefits advice to mental health, housing or education services. We want to make sure everyone has the right support in place and also introduce them to all the great things we have to offer here in Hyndburn.”

Councillor Paddy Short, Leader of the Green Party Group and Armed Forces Champion for Hyndburn said:

“It was fantastic to meet some of the Ukrainians here in Hyndburn and also talk to Maundy Relief about the great work they are doing. I know that Maundy will be on hand to help them as they settle into our borough and will provide a warm welcome for all. I would like to thank everyone who has been helping people fleeing the war in Ukraine, especially the families who are hosting arrivals here in our borough.”

Maundy Relief are holding weekly meetings at their Accrington location, all are welcome to attend. For information email beccymurrell@maundyrelief.org.uk
