Haworth Art Gallery receives Full Accreditation from Arts Council England

On Friday 7 October, 2022 Haworth Art Gallery received confirmation from Arts Council England that an accreditation panel on 22 September 2022 awarded Haworth Art Gallery Full Accreditation. The Arts Council Accreditation Scheme is the UK industry standard for museums and galleries. It helps everyone involved with a museum to do the right things, helping people to access and engage with collections, and protect them for future generations.
The Accreditation Scheme does this by making sure museums manage their collections properly, engage with visitors, and are governed appropriately by encouraging all museums and galleries to meet an agreed standard in:
- How they’re run
- How they manage their collections
- How they engage with their users
This involves writing policies, plans and procedures to professional museum standards. Accreditation lasts for 5 years and allows the gallery to access funding to support the work they do in Hyndburn.
Gillian Berry, Arts and Heritage Manager at Hyndburn Borough Council, said:
“I am extremely proud of the team at Haworth Art Gallery and all of the hard work they have put into our accreditation submission. After initially submitting accreditation in February 2020, Covid hit and all of the work we had put into that was put on hold.
“When accreditation was opened up again, because there had been so much change, all of the policies, plans and procedures had to be rewritten. However, this gave us the opportunity to reflect on how Haworth Art Gallery was being run and how we could achieve the necessary professional standards.
“Writing the bid included input from the public, artists from the Artists’ Studios, the Haworth Art Gallery team, Hyndburn Borough Council Officers, Creative Lancashire, Super Slow Way, Pennine Lancashire Museums, HBC Councillors, Museums Development North West and Arts Council England. The work was a huge joint effort and I would like to thank everyone involved for their help in Haworth Art Gallery achieving Arts Council England Museum Accreditation.”
