The Big Thank You Awards 2023

Top-Notch Team Award The Pest Control Team

Wow!… what a year our amazing and hardworking pest control team are having.

On the back of finishing “Runner-up” in the National Pest Awards at a glitzy bash at the Hilton, London in September. They only go one better and get the win!

For the past 14 years the council have been recognising the hard work and commitment of individual staff and teams in the councils own awards evening “The Big Thank You Awards” held in the beautiful Ballroom at the Town Hall.

With The Haworth Art Gallery, Markets Team and The Pest Control Team all nominated in this year’s award, there really was some strong competition and all worthy winners.

In my eyes, just to be nominated is just as important as winning. Each nomination means that multiple colleagues around the council have taken the time out vote for you giving details on why you are deserving of this award.

The Pest Control Team feel extremely honored to receive this award and the certificate and trophy will go pride of place in the office.

Local Authority of the Year

Hyndburn Council celebrated the National Pest Awards 2023 in style this month after being shortlisted for Local Authority of the Year for their year-round pest control operations.

The National Pest Awards, organised by Pest magazine and supported by BPCA, NPTA, and Basis, is an annual awards ceremony dedicated to celebrating the very best in professional pest control across the UK.

At the final awards ceremony in London, representatives from the Pest Control Team had the opportunity to network with fellow pest control experts. Whilst competition was extremely tight to get to the finals, Hyndburn Borough Council are thrilled to announce that they secured second place in their category.

Cllr Steven Smithson, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said:

“One of the utmost priorities for us at Hyndburn Council is striving to make the Borough a clean and safe place to work, live and reside in for all. The ongoing work of the Pest Control Team throughout the year is a testament to this commitment and this nomination only proves how much of an asset the team are to the Council.

“I would like to personally extend a huge congratulations to every single person who helps keep this operation running smoothly – you should all be exceptionally proud of yourselves and your efforts to protect the residents of the Borough.”

The ‘Local Authority of the Year’ category is an award that acknowledges the work of a Local Authority pest control operation – like the Pest Control team within Hyndburn Borough Council’s Environmental Services – and recognises the commitment of the team to consistently go above and beyond the call of duty, with a real focus on skill development and progression.

Lee Taylor, Pest Control Manager, said:

“It was such an honour for the team to just be nominated for the ‘Local Authority of the Year’ award, let alone to go on to secure second place against some truly excellent nominees. I am very proud to have been able to represent Hyndburn Council at the awards and to have the opportunity to share more of the work that my team do on a day-to-day basis.

“Over recent years, several new measures have been implemented that support the Pest Control team in running an effective essential service for residents, and we are committed to continuing to refine our service to make it the very best it can be for all living in the Borough.”

Hyndburn Council have been providing industry-standard pest control services since 1974. The expert team of trained and qualified officers provide a prompt, discrete and effective solution to any pest problem for both domestic and commercial customers.

1Env On the Road Event

Hyndburn Borough Council worked closely with 1Env Solutions to help organise and deliver this amazing training event held at Accrington Stanley’s 1968 Lounge.

Over 60 pest control technicians from 16 local authorities across Lancashire & Great Manchester attended this free event getting vital industry updates on legislation, products and practices along with networking and sharing ideas across borders.

One of the guest speakers Alex Wade from Wade Environmental delivered a fascinating presentation “The Wild Show” while lots of live rodents and creepy crawlies where passed around to be viewed and held.

I was also informed that all of these were recovered at the end and none had escaped within the hospitality suite… 🙂

The event was a great success and couldn’t have happened without the help of 1Env, BPCA, Bayer, Wade Environmental, Pelgar International, Deadline & Pest Magazine who all delivered fantastic presentations that kept the audience fully engaged throughout the day.
