Brookside Consultation Launched

Following the purchase of the 87-acre Brookside site in Stanhill Village (also known as Bury Meadows), Hyndburn Borough Council have partnered with Stanhill Village Community Association, Proffitts CIC and PROSPECTS Foundation to transform the space.

All residents of Hyndburn are urged to take part in the survey, to help prioritise the improvements and offer local knowledge on the site (see online link below).

Everyone is welcome to come along to the EcoFest on 17th June in Accrington town centre to see the initial proposals and talk with the project team.

The transformation of Brookside aims to enhance its important habitats and heritage features and improve public wellbeing by creating a country park for people to enjoy nature and outdoor activities. This ambitious project strives to improve local wellbeing, as well as biodiversity, habitat recovery and enable tangible climate action.   There will be many opportunities for people to get involved.

Cllr Marlene Haworth, Leader of the Council, said:

“I am pleased to see the progression of this project as part of wider plans to invest in all towns across the Borough, and I am eager to enjoy the final space as a local to the area. I encourage all residents to get involved in the survey.”

Cllr Steven Smithson, Portfolio Holder for Parks, said:

“Our Borough has some truly wonderful outdoor spaces that are well-loved and used by the local community, and I look forward to Brookside becoming another hub for outdoor activity. Getting out in nature is so important for the mental and physical wellbeing of us all.”

The closing date for the survey is 23rd June 2023. The results of the survey will help determine what further development work needs to be done by the group, helping to decide the priority of the development works. This is a long-term project set to take place over several years and would be dependent upon successful fundraising.
