Byron Close Community Centre £400 grant
Hyndburn Council are pleased to share that a £400 grant has been allocated from the Leader’s budget to support the ongoing work being done at Byron Close community centre, a community centre based in Oswaldtwistle that supports tenants over the age of 55.
Cllr Peter Britcliffe, Portfolio Holder for Resources, said:
“It is always heartwarming to work directly with the local community and see just how much of a difference our support can make for residents. I am proud to be able to support the ongoing changes taking place at Byron Close community centre in some way and I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of the volunteers who are working so hard at the community centre to turn these fantastic ideas into realities that serve to benefit the community. Everyone should be very proud of themselves, and their efforts should be applauded.”
This follows the recent transformation of the community garden at Byron Close community centre, which is managed by local housing association Onward Homes, as part of a programme wider ongoing community work. Working with local partners, Onward helped to bring together groups of volunteers to create a space – complete with a brand new greenhouse – for the community to come together and encourage others to use the space for growing crops.

“Byron Close Community Centre is an important asset in our community that offers a place for older residents living nearby to come together and take part in different activities. It has been brilliant to see so many local volunteers helping with the work to improve the centre, starting with the transformation of the community garden which is now a place that residents can enjoy. We are grateful to our volunteers, local partners, and Hyndburn Council for their ongoing support.
”The tenants have further plans to encourage the community to get involved and develop new friendships in the process, which the grant money and ongoing support from their dedicated pool of volunteers will help to turn into a reality.”
The Leader’s budget was created this year to provide Council Leader Cllr Marleen Haworth with a discretionary fund to support key service providing groups that were experiencing financial pressure, support events for the general benefit of the borough, and to pay for additional Council services that help to make Hyndburn a nicer place to live and visit.
