Hyndburn Borough Council are offering the unique opportunity to lease and operate Accrington Market Hall, a majestic Victorian building in the heart of Accrington, in their search for a Market Operator. This historic building will be fully refurbished and re-fitted with £11million of investment prior to handover, as one of three ongoing Levelling Up fund projects in Accrington.

The goal is to create a vibrant, modern Market Hall that can act as a leisure and retail anchor for the surrounding area, enticing the 2.7m people living within a 45-minute drive of the area to explore the very best of what Hyndburn has to offer. The plans include a traditional retail area, a food hall, and a high-quality indoor play area.

Cllr Marlene Haworth, Leader of the Council, said:

“As someone who both works and resides in Hyndburn, I am the first to say just how near and dear Accrington Market Hall is to locals and so to watch the transformation of the space unfold firsthand is a real pleasure. There is so much potential for the Market to return as a thriving hub of activity and so we are keen to seek an Operator who wants the very best for our Market as well. I firmly believe that the future of our Borough is a bright one and I am excited to watch the transformation of Accrington unfold alongside all the residents.”

The Council are seeking an innovative and experienced entrepreneur to take lease of Accrington Market Hall, enlivening the renovated space with the very best local retailers, and food and beverage traders.

The successful applicant will be handed the keys to a fully refurbished and re-fitted space, delivering a clear marketing and management strategy, as well as a rolling schedule of events. Hyndburn Council are seeking a turnover related rent and a lease providing at least a 10-year commitment.

County Councillor Aidy Riggott, cabinet member for Economic Development and Growth, said:

“Lancashire County Council fully supports Hyndburn’s plans, which have benefited from our local Levelling Up Investment Fund and Lancashire Economic Recovery and Growth Fund. I’m extremely pleased to see these ambitious plans for Accrington starting to come to fruition.”
