Planning Approval for Burtons Chambers Co-Working Transformation and Market Traders Decant

Planning Approval has been granted for Burtons Chambers and the Market on the Square temporary market, which are required to deliver the Accrington Town Square redevelopment scheme.

In the town square, Burtons Chambers, originally a workplace with ground floor commercial units, has become increasingly unoccupied over the decades despite its Art Deco significance. AEW architects designed the scheme, with planning input from LDA, to repurpose Burtons Chambers into a modern co-working space across the whole building. The aim is to create a co-working space with a wide range of accommodation for entrepreneurs and businesses in Accrington and across the wider Borough of Hyndburn, with a focus on nurturing and supporting the growth of new businesses and SMEs.  CBRE are supporting Hyndburn Council to progress the selection processes for an operator who will deliver a high-quality environment.

The Market on the Square provides a home for market traders to operate from whilst renovation work is undertaken to Accrington Market Hall. The Grade ll listed Victorian Market Hall in Accrington will be extensively refurbished to become a vibrant retail, leisure, and food and drink destination for residents and attracting visitors from across the country. Barker Proudlove are supporting Hyndburn Council to progress the selection process for an experienced market operator who will drive forward this vision.

Burton’s Chambers and the Market Hall are two of the Levelling Up Funded projects being delivered as part of the Accrington Town Square scheme, which also includes Market Chambers, which will be refurbished, and restored, with the goal of transforming it into a cultural and heritage venue.

Accrington Town Square’s transformational projects have been made possible through the Government’s Levelling Up Fund. The renovation and repurposing of these buildings are set to support the town centre’s plans for regeneration and investment in Accrington’s town centre. The initiatives will boost footfall, provide support to existing businesses, and attract a diverse array of new enterprises and activities, breathing new life into the town.
