Work to Begin on Exciting New Play Area in Mercer Park, Clayton-Le-Moors
In an inspiring collaboration with the Clayton and Altham Prospects Panel, Hyndburn Borough Council is set to bring a wave of joy to Mercer Park as work will soon begin on a new play area. This venture, fuelled by community insights and substantial funding, is poised to enrich the lives of children in the area.
The design of the new play area is a direct result of extensive consultations carried out with the help of Hyndburn Leisure Trust during a fun day in Mercer Park in the summer of 2023. Leveraging inputs from local schools and residents, the design of the play area has been meticulously crafted to align with the community’s aspirations and needs.
The play area will deliver 12 new pieces of play equipment. Highlights include; a vibrant trampoline for boundless fun, additional swings, three distinct slides designed for different age groups, roundabouts and an adventurous aerial runway.
The project has received substantial support, with a grant of £40,000 from the Lancashire Environment Fund awarded to the Clayton and Altham Prospects Panel. Further amplifying this, Hyndburn Borough Council has committed an additional investment of £125,000, underscoring its dedication to enhancing local parks and outdoor facilities.
Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, Councillor Steven Smithson expressed his enthusiasm. He said, “Hyndburn Borough Council is pleased to work with the local community and continues to invest in its parks and outdoor facilities. This project showcases our commitment to meeting the community’s aspirations for a dynamic new play area.”
Paul Worswick from the Clayton and Altham Prospects Panel also shared his excitement, commenting, “The new play area will be a fantastic addition to Mercer Park, ensuring it continues to meet and exceed local people’s expectations as an award-winning park.”
This initiative stands as a testament to the power of community engagement and collaboration. By combining resources, expertise, and local insights, Hyndburn Borough Council and the Clayton and Altham Prospects Panel are set to deliver a play area that will not only bring joy to the children but also strengthen the communal bond within Clayton-Le-Moors. The Mercer Park play area is all set to be a vibrant hub of activity, laughter, and shared experiences, enriching the community for years to come.
