Ways to Pay

Details of how you can pay your Council Tax can be found in our Council Tax pages.

There are several ways to pay your Council Tax and you can choose to spread your payments over 12 months if you want to.  To change your instalments to 12 months please contact us (see below).

The easiest way to pay is by Direct Debit.  We offer four payment dates each month (1st, 10th, 20th and 28th) and you can set up a Direct Debit Online in minutes.  You can also set this up over the phone (see contact us below).

Important Details About Your Payments

You must let us know if you have any changes in your circumstances which might affect your Council Tax – such as someone moving in or out of your household, if you move or if you receive Council Tax Support and your financial circumstances change.

We use SMS text messaging and emails to contact residents about Council Tax bills.  If you wish to opt out of receiving any text messages from us please contact us.

Changes to how the Bailiffs (Enforcement Agents) calculate their fees came into force on 6 April 2014.  This means that there could be additional charges added by the Enforcement Agent.  Further information can be found on the links below:

Receiving your annual bill

The annual bills for Council Tax will start to arrive from 09 March 2016.  This year we have started to send bills by email too.  If you have signed up to our e-billing service you should receive your bill on from 28 February 2016.

Contact us

The annual billing period from mid-March to the end of April is the busiest time of year for our Customer Contact Team.  We issue 37,000 Council Tax Bills, 11,000 annual Housing Benefit notifications and 2,500 Business Rates bill all in the same week.

This means that our telephone waiting times and email response times are longer than usual.

We also have an email facility where we aim to respond within two working days.  We will respond with the same information as you would over the phone.
