Business Rates

Introduction

National Non Domestic Rates (NNDR), also known as business rates are charged on non-domestic or commercial properties and help fund local services.

Commercial properties are given a rateable value by the Valuation Office Agency. This rateable value is then multiplied by figures set by the Government to produce the annual bill for the property. Any adjustments to the rateable value of a property are dealt with by the Valuations Office Agency. The most recent ratings list was produced in 01 April 2023 and was based on 01 April 2021 values.

If you are concerned that your business rates may be incorrect, you can check the information the VOA has used and let them know if something is incorrect using this guide: Check and challenge your business rates valuation: step by step
