Council Tax Bands

­How is Council Tax calculated?

Properties were placed into bands based on their value on 1st April 1991.  Although property values have changed in real terms since 1991, their relative value has remained largely the same.

The Valuation Office Agency decides how much a property would be valued at if it was placed onto the open market back on 1st April 1991.  Properties and their bandings­ are listed on the Valuation list which is available publicly.

­The Valuation Office Agency deals with appeals against the band that your property has been put into.  More information about making an appeal can be found on their website.
