Enforcing Health and Safety matters
The Council has a duty to enforce the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 in premises which have been allocated to them by the current Health and Safety (Enforcing Authority) Regulations. Officers from Environmental Health Services visit places of work to ensure that employers are abiding by the law. They give guidance when required and take enforcement action when the law has not been complied with.
In addition to carrying out these statutory duties, we also work in partnership with our internal and external partners to try and improve health and reduce health inequalities within the Borough.
