Investigation of Food Complaints

Making a Food Complaint

We can only investigate complaints about food bought in Hyndburn. If the food is unfit, significantly contaminated or has made you ill, then it becomes a public health concern.

There are a number of common complaints which do not pose a risk to public safety. These need to be investigated by the vendor and manufacturer.  Please see Common Food Complaints below.

If an investigation is carried out and the complaint is found to be justified, we  will ensure action is taken to prevent the problem from reoccurring.
Please be aware that we are unable to seek compensation on your behalf.

Some minor complaints are best resolved by taking the product back to the vendor as soon as possible.

  • Most manufacturers have a customer complaints department.  Ask for the matter to  be investigated and an explanation given.
  • If you are seeking compensation you should contact a solicitor.
  • The local Citizens Advice Bureau may be able to advise you on your rights.
  • Consumer Direct is a government funded telephone and online service providing advice on general consumer issues and how to make a complaint.
