Foreign Bodies in Food

Discovering something in food which shouldn’t be there can be an unpleasant experience. If you are concerned about food handling practices or standards of cleanliness in the Hyndburn area, contact the team on  01254 288 111.

All complaints are dealt with anonymously and once a complaint has been received, an officer from the Food Safety team will investigate the complaint and inform you of the outcome.

Please remember –

  • Avoid handling any foreign object. If it is embedded in the food do not remove it.
  • Keep the food in its original container where possible.
  • Keep labels, wrappings and receipts.
  • If the food is perishable, keep it in the fridge or freezer so that it does not deteriorate and can be examined later.

In most cases, food hygiene complaints can be dealt with informally but occasionally our investigations can result in a prosecution.

If there is an imminent risk of injury to health we can close a premises until the problems are dealt with.
