In January 2024 Accrington Market Hall will temporarily close so that the construction works can begin. The Victorian Building will be transformed into a food, drink, retail and play destination to attract visitors from far and wide utilising the Levelling Up Funding received from The Government.

Hyndburn Borough Council Leader, Councillor Marlene Haworth, announced at Wednesday’s Cabinet Meeting (6 December) that a new initiative to support traders during this transitional time has been confirmed.

Cllr Haworth said:

“I am delighted to announce that starting in January our Accrington Market Hall Traders will have a 3-month break in rent, with no charges due, and following this there will be a reduction on their usual rate for the remainder of their time in the temporary locations.

“The renovation of Accrington Market Hall is on track for completion in Spring 2025 and I know that until then everyone will join me in shopping locally and supporting all the traders and other businesses Hyndburn has to offer.

“Over the last 16 years I have continually championed the trader community at Accrington Market Hall and I am very proud to be part of securing this help for them. I look forward to the exciting changes coming and also seeing the launch of the temporary market on the square in the new year.”

During this transitional period, starting in January 2024, Accrington Market Traders will be relocated to Accrington Town Square, Broadway, The Arndale Centre and The Arcade, allowing the community to continue shopping with them and enjoying their services.

Some traders have taken the opportunity to relocate into bespoke cabins they have co-designed to meet their business needs, which are being built throughout December and will take centre stage on Accrington’s Town Square in January 2024.

Full information about the trader locations, opening times and a launch event for the new ‘Market on the Square’ will be shared on Accrington Town Square social media and website in the new year: www.AccringtonTownSquare.com
